NEW ALBUM: Princess Century – Progress
Electronic music is going many different ways: some is optimized towards danceability, some merges back into rock music and some reaches for ever more abstraction, like Laurel Halo’s work. Princess Century’s debut album on the other hand, while named Progress, goes musically it rather back to a time, when electronic music was all about building beautiful melodies with new timbres that nobody had heard before. The album contains nine instrumentals and they remind me much on the work of French synth pioneer Jean-Michelle Jarre: It is music that makes you feel good and energetic.
Princess Century is the solo project of Maya Postepski, a Canadian musician of many talents and probably best known as the drummer and founding member of Katie Stelmanis’ band Austra. Her album Progress is out now on Paper Bag Records. Listen to it on Apple Music, Spotify or Soundcloud below:
