SONG PICK: SHHE – Emma
Su Shaw aka SHHE has released another stunning track from her self-titled debut album, due out next Friday on One Little Indian. In “Emma” SHHE uses her signature subtle production to greatest effect and you can feel the effects of that unhealthy relationships with her through the music. The song builds, but never releases the tension. Su explains:
This is not a song about unrequited love. It’s about something that feels more destructive. There’s an internal drone that you hear from the beginning, this constant reminder, an uneasiness. It feels a bit symptomatic of motion sickness. It’s overpowering. And there are all these mixed messages, this confusing build up of hopefulness and hopelessness.
