Morgan Harper-Jones – Boombox

Becoming a fan of an artist is quite an exciting thing because you never know what the artist does next. Will you still like their sound as they develop? While I always really liked British singer/songwriter Morgan Harper-Jones I lost a bit of track of her, but this all changed with “Boombox!” Morgan’s new single couldn’t be any prettier and more enticing. This is pop at its best, and I thought this singer/songwriter wouldn’t do ‘pop.’  ‘Boombox” makes me look forward to Morgan Harper-Jones’ debut album Up To The Glass, scheduled for February 23, 2024, via Play It Again Sam. Morgan Harper-Jones says about Up to the Glass:

“The full spectrum of human emotion is here, and I hope listeners will recognise themselves and find comfort in these songs in some way. I feel like I’ve finally accepted that it’s okay to feel however I want to feel without apologising for that, as long as I try my best and don’t behave like an arsehole I’m all good, and this album is a record of getting to this place.”

Asked about “Boombox,” Morgan adds:

“‘Boombox’ is an ultimatum. I was terrified of giving ultimatums because I thought that if I was honest and told someone what I needed they might say ‘No I can’t give you that’ and there’d be no going back. So I found myself in situationships a lot, trying to prove my worth and patiently waiting for them to notice me and choose me. But eventually you realise that life is too short to wait for someone like that.”

While the track comes with an unmistakable nostalgic vibe, the accompanying video goes in quite a geeky direction. Even after watching it several times, I am still not sure what to make out of it. Why isn’t there frenetic applause in the end because “Boombox” is nothing short of fantastic! Listen to “Boombox,” our Song Pick of the Day, and check out the video:
