I.M the artist – SOULED OUT
“SOULED OUT,” the new single by singer/songwriter I.M the artist, offers a welcomed balance to the joyful holiday songs that are impossible to escape this time of year. The track is kept in a pensive vibe, with steady beats and beautifully warm vocals. Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Issa (I.M the artist) now calls London, U.K., her home. This is where she draws inspiration from alt-RnB, soul, and hip-hop and creates her own soundscapes with relatable lyrics and a keen look at what’s going on in the world. We asked Issa to comment on her latest work because there’s a lot to process in this powerful, magnificent song. I.M the artist says:
“‘SOULED OUT’ is layered with old school drum and sax samples, and heavy influences from alternative R&B and soul sonics. The lyricism speaks to the exploitative nature of corrupt governments and those who abuse their privilege and power. I believe artists are gifted with the means to communicate in ways that offer perspective and evoke emotion; and although art often acts as a tool for escapism, I also think it serves to reflect society and aid in collective healing. I hope this song provides space for that.”
